Merlyn is a Canadian Internet Safety Evangelist. She has published policy documents for provincial government ministries, presented to international conferences and been featured on major media outlets. Since 2002, when she founded the Safe Online Outreach Society, the bulk of her work has been the research, development and delivery of internet safety presentations to students and parents.

This session will give you practical ideas and the tools to make your children safer online. Parent advisory, grandparent, new parent and foster parent groups can all become better informed participants in their children’s online world. Topics include an overview of online youth culture, thinking critically online, online conduct, permanent digital reputations, cyber abuse and online drama, gaming, sexting and online pornography, how apps work on our brain, tips of mitigating excessive screen time, and setting technology limits.

The event is $20 at the door and we ask for registration simply with an email to capilanopac@gmail.com, stating the names of the guests to attend the parenting session May 28th, so we can include them on our list of attendees.

We will have babysitting available in our music room.  Bring mugs for coffee/tea.

 Hope to see you there!
